Young Driver, the UK’s largest provider of driving lessons to under-17s, has announced record figures for last year.
Nearly 150,000 Young Driver lessons were delivered in 2017, an increase in 30 per cent over the previous 12 months.
The increased demand saw Young Driver open 14 new sites last year, and it now employs the equivalent of 54 full time staff.
Last year also saw Vauxhall became a sponsor of the Young Driver scheme, and the introduction of new Corsas for the youngsters to drive has seen the fleet size increase by 20 per cent to a new total of 165 dedicated cars.
Since the scheme was launched nine years ago, well over half-a-million lessons have been sold as parents look to give their children a head start in learning about responsible driving. It offers those aged between 10 and 17 the opportunity to get behind the wheel of a dual control vehicle with a fully qualified driving instructor. The Young Driver centres simulate realistic road systems, with everything from roundabouts to junctions, providing the youngsters the chance to gain valuable experience behind the wheel.
With research showing that learning to drive at a younger age can half the accident risk of a newly qualified driver, there are plans to further expand the scheme this year.
