Radical Rake e concept to spearhead Vauxhall’s Frankfurt line up | Motorshow - Car News Sep 2011

Vauxhall will unveil a bold concept model at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month, in addition to other new releases on show.

According to Vauxhall, the Rake e concept model has the potential to go into production, and it claims it could revolutionise zero emissions urban driving. Vauxhall has designed the Rake e concept with young drivers in mind. The daring design weighs just 380kg, and its electric motor provides a 60 mile range and 75mph top speed, whilst producing zero tailpipe emissions.

The show in Frankfurt will also see the debut on the world stage of Vauxhall's Astra GTC, and the company has confirmed it will be announcing a new diesel engine for the model along with an ecoFLEX addition to the range for 2012.

Also due to make its world premiere on the Vauxhall stand at Frankfurt is the new Zafira Tourer, and Vauxhall has confirmed it will be using the show to announce pricing details for the model ahead of its order books opening on 1st November.

A revised Insignia will also appear on the Vauxhall stand, enabling the manufacturer to showcase its improved engines in the model range, the greenest of which now emits only 115g/km of CO2. The new 134g/km emitting 1.4-litre turbo engine which is new for the Insignia range will also be on display, along with other new introductions such as start/stop technology and electric power steering.

The new Ampera will make its first public appearance in production form, having previously been exhibited as a concept. The electric powered Ampera has a range of up to 310 miles and has already gone on sale in mainland Europe. Vauxhall will start taking UK orders for the Ampera before the end of this year.

Vauxhall has also announced it will be using the Frankfurt Motor Show to reveal details of an extension to its ecoFLEX range of models in the UK, to include the Astra GTC and Zafira Tourer. All of Vauxhall's ecoFLEX models have CO2 emissions of under 120g/km, with the lowest emitting model in the range producing a Congestion Charge busting 94g/km.
