The upcoming Qoros 3 saloon has achieved the highest crash test rating of 2013 in the Euro NCAP tests.
The Chinese Qoros 3 edged out competition from established European and Japanese brands such as Skoda, Renault and Toyota, to claim the highest results recorded in the Euro NCAP tests this year.
Scoring 95 per cent for adult occupancy safety, 87 per cent for child occupancy safety, 77 per cent for pedestrian safety and 81 per cent for its safety assistance systems, the Qoros 3 received praise for is robust passenger cell, which stood up well to the front-end, side impact and pole impact collisions.
With an overall score of 88 per cent, the Qoros 3 is the first Chinese car ever to achieve the full NCAP five stars.
Volker Steinwascher, Vice Chairman of Qoros, said: "The safety of our vehicles was one of our key development goals from the start. It's a crucial demonstration that our customers are the most important consideration and it also says a great deal about the engineering integrity of the car as a whole.
"The Qoros engineering team invested an incredible amount of time and commitment in developing one of the safest vehicles ever assessed by Euro NCAP."
The Qoros' impressive results reflect significant progress in China's car manufacturing industry; indeed, just a few years ago, Chinese cars were being laughed out of the crash test centre for their abysmal safety credentials. If China's meteoric rise continues at this rate, the established European and Japanese manufacturers might just have cause to start panicking.
The Qoros 3 is expected to go on sale in Europe next year.
