The purchase price of MINI’s first plug-in hybrid model has been confirmed.
The MINI Cooper S E Countryman ALL4 will go on sale this summer priced from £31,585 on-the-road, not including the Government plug-in car grant.
Powered by a hybrid system comprising a 3-cylinder TwinPower turbo petrol engine and a synchronous electric motor, a pairing which produces 224 bhp, the new MINI goes from 0-62mph in 6.8 seconds. The combustion engine powers the front wheels via a 6-speed Steptronic gearbox, while the power from the electric motor is sent to the rear wheels creating an all-wheel drive system.
In everyday traffic the petrol engine is designed to gently activate at 50mph, which can be overridden via the eDRIVE switch with MAX eDRIVE mode allowing all-electric motoring up to 78mph. The all-electric range of the model is 25 miles. A full charge of the electric motor takes between two-and-a-quarter and three-and-a-quarter hours, and can be done using a conventional household socket. The high-voltage battery comes with a 6-year/60,000-mile warranty. The battery is housed beneath the rear seat and the 405 litre boot.
Equipment includes SatNav, Bluetooth, cruise control, emergency e-call, active guard, and a three spoke sports steering wheel as standard. Features exclusive to the plug-in model include an “E” emblem on the radiator grille and side scuttles, door sill finishers with a yellow “S” logo, 17-inch light alloy wheels, hybrid-specific dash displays, and the eDRIVE toggle switch.
