Would you like to see an estate version of the Porsche Panamera?

That's the question the Stuttgart firm is asking with its latest concept car, the Panamera Sport Turismo.

The plug-in hybrid model is still in the early development stages, but Porsche is using the Paris Motor Show to gauge the public's reaction to the concept of a Panamera estate.

As you'd expect, the Sport Turismo is essentially an elongated version of the standard Panamera with a longer roofline and a more 'estate-like' profile. However, the concept's front-end styling also hints towards the direction Porsche will take with the facelifted Panamera, which is due for release next year.

Under the bonnet, the Panamera Sport Turismo is fitted with what Porsche calls an 'e-hybrid' powertrain, which comprises of a 328bhp 3.0-litre V6 engine mated to a 94bhp electric motor.

It's essentially a plug-in hybrid version of the powertrain fitted to the Panamera and Cayenne hybrid models, and it propels the Sport Turismo from 0-62mph in under six seconds.

The all-electric range of the Sport Turismo is 20 miles, and it can be driven at speeds of up to 75mph on the electric motor alone.

Porsche claims a fuel economy figure of 80mpg and CO2 emissions of less than 82g/km.

However, should Porsche build an estate car? There are Porsche purists who will argue that the company should only ever build the 911; however, the Cayenne is proof that Porsche can and will diversify its range.
