Peugeot has revealed the pricing and specification details for the new RCZ R, which goes on sale next week.
The RCZ R, which made its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July, is the most powerful road-going car Peugeot has ever made. Power comes from a 1.6-litre THP turbocharged petrol engine developing 270bhp which is enough to give the RCZ R a 0-62mph time of 5.9 seconds and a limited top speed of 155mph.
To cope with the extra power, Peugeot has reinforced the engine block with a special heat treatment to improve durability. There are also new forged pistons, stronger con rods and uprated bearings, all of which have been designed to withstand continued use at high engine speeds and higher cylinder pressures.
Peugeot has also strengthened the RCZ R's six-speed manual gearbox and fitted an uprated clutch, a larger intercooler and a new twin-scroll turbocharger. The modified exhaust features a "sound system" which amplifies the sound of the engine.
The RCZ R sits 10mm closer to the road than the standard car on new two-tone 19-inch alloy wheels. There are new, larger four-piston brakes with red callipers, revised damper settings, stiffer springs and a stiffer anti-roll bar.
But despite the RCZ R's performance credentials, the official combined economy figure stands at 44.8mpg and CO2 emissions stand at 145g/km.
Four exterior colours will be available on the new car: Moroccan Red, Nera Black, Opal White and Mercury Grey.
The RCZ R will be priced from £31,995 when it goes on sale next Monday. The first customer deliveries will take place on 2 January 2014.
