PSA, the parent group which covers the Peugeot, Citroen, and premium DS brands, is to ramp up production levels by ten per cent over the next four months as it attempts to meet increased demand from European customers for its products.
More than 60,000 additional vehicles will be produced by increasing output from the group’s European plants during the period. As a result, and additional 9,000 examples of the Madrid-built Citroen C4 Cactus will be produced between now and the end of August after the model exceeded the manufacturer’s expectations by selling over 30,000 units since the start of the year. Production of a number of models in the Peugeot line up will also be increased to cope with better-than-expected demand on the European market, including the 208, 2008, 308, and 308 SW. The Poissy, France, manufacturing facility will also increase its output of DS 3 models.
The move is also a boost for the group’s suppliers, who will be expected to meet the additional demands created by the increase in production volumes. PSA will be stepping up operations at its France-based engine and gearbox plants, as well as at its foundries and sales showrooms. Additional jobs may also be created by the move.
"Growth in the European market is very good news for the entire automotive industry, from plants to dealership networks to suppliers,” said Denis Martin, Executive Vice President and Operational Director Europe for PSA Peugeot Citroen.
“It's having a real turbo effect on PSA's performance. The positive development we're seeing in the market today means we can step up execution of the Back in the Race plan, which was based on the assumption that the market would remain flat.”
