Peugeot have smashed the lap record for electric vehicles on the Nordschleife at the Nurburgring.
"Dedication's what you need, if you wanna be a record breaker", sang the late Roy Castle, and Peugeot's dedication paid off when they knocked 50 seconds off the electric lap record on the Nurburgring's fearsome Nordschleife.
The Peugeot EX1 concept car's lap time was clocked by the circuit's official timekeeping body WIGE Performance at 9 minutes 1.338 seconds for the near 13 mile track. This meant the record attempt by Peugeot comprehensively beat the previous electric vehicle lap record of 9 minutes 51.45 seconds. The EX1 concept car, piloted by Stephane Caillet, averaged just under 86mph on its record breaking lap.
With 73 bends along its undulating 12.944 mile course, the infamous track hosted the German Grand Prix for many years, before safety concerns in the mid-seventies put an end to Formula One action on the Nordschleife.
