Asda has sparked a fuel price war by slashing its petrol and diesel prices.

From tomorrow, drivers filling up at an Asda forecourt will pay no more than 126.7p per litre for unleaded and 133.7p per litre for diesel.

Tesco and Morrisons have also cut the price of petrol and diesel by up to 2p per litre across the majority of their sites and Sainsbury's has announced a reduction of 3p per litre across all 286 of its forecourts.

Asda claims that the price reductions mean that petrol and diesel are as cheap as they have been all year. Petrol prices at Sainsbury's are now as low as they have been in two and a half years.

Sainsbury's fuel buyer Chris Biggs said: "We are always looking at ways to help our customers save money, especially in the run up to Christmas. We know that fuel is a big part of the weekly budget for many households so we hope this cut will be welcomed by drivers across Britain."

These cuts are the latest in a line of fuel price reductions which have resulted from the fall in the wholesale cost of oil.
