An Aston Martin first owned by Sir Paul McCartney was sold at auction yesterday for £307,500.

The 1964 Aston Martin DB5, which Sir Macca ordered shortly before the Beatles embarked on their 1964 world tour, was expected to fetch anywhere between £300,000 and £380,000 when it went under the hammer at R.M. Auctions in London.

The Aston features a Motorola radio and a state of the art (for 1964) Philips Auto-Mignon record player which allowed the world's most successful musician to listen to his 45s on the move.

The DB5 has undergone a complete restoration in recent years to restore it to its original state.
