One of the (few) benefits of electric cars is that, in theory, they're just as fast going backwards as they are going forwards.

And it seems that Nissan is putting this theory to the test at next weekend's Goodwood Festival of Speed by sending one if its LEAF electric cars up the famous 1.16-mile hillclimb course backwards.

The attempt is part of Nissan's social media-driven campaign, the Big Turn On, which is part of the Japanese company's strategy to convince buyers that electric cars are a viable alternative to liquid-fuelled cars (They're not, by the way - Ed).

The stunt will be undertaken by professional stunt driver Terry Grant, the man famous for driving a Nissan Juke the full length of the Goodwood course on two wheels last year.

"The LEAF Reverse Record isn't going to be easy and will be very challenging," said Grant, Whatever happens, I know I'm going to finish the weekend with a serious crick in my neck!"
