The new Volvo XC60 SUV has gone on UK sale priced from £37,205 on-the-road.
Powered at launch by a choice of three Volvo Drive-E powertrains – a 2.0-litre 190bhp D4 PowerPulse diesel, 2.0-litre 235bhp D5 PowerPulse diesel, and a 2.0-litre 254bhp T5 petrol engine – a twin engine petrol-electric plug-in hybrid will follow later in the year.
All models boast all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic gearbox as standard. The D4 diesel offers up to 55.4 mpg and CO2 emissions from just 133 g/km, while for the D5 diesel those figures are 51.4 mpg and 144 g/km. Both have PowerPulse, a Volvo innovation that uses compressed air to spin the engine’s two turbos when they would otherwise be dormant, such as very low engine revs, boosting responsiveness. The T5 petrol offers up to 39.2 mpg and CO2 emissions from 164 g/km.
Standard equipment on all models includes leather-faced upholstery, LED headlights with active high beam, two-zone climate control with CleanZone air-filtration system, heated front seats, powered tailgate, 18-inch alloy wheels, and Volvo’s Sensus infotainment system with 9-inch portrait-style touch screen, SatNav, and voice-activation system. All models will also benefit from Volvo’s City Safety system, which includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian, cyclist and large animal detection, and a Steer Assist feature that helps to avoid or limit the severity of collisions at low speeds by assisting with the steering in an emergency, such as when swerving to miss an obstacle. Pilot Assist, the semi-autonomous drive feature, is an optional extra on all new XC60 models.
The R-Design version, priced from £39,705, adds 19-inch alloy wheels, sports suspension, sports seats trimmed in leather and Nubuck, high gloss black front grille, and silver matt and high gloss exterior detailing. The Inscription trim, which starts at £41,205, gains Nappa soft leather upholstery, electrically adjustable ventilated front seats, unique 19-inch alloy wheels, chrome exterior details, and rear footwell and side step illumination.
All models are available in highly specified Pro form. Momentum Pro brings powered front seats, heated steering wheel and windscreen, active bending headlights with adaptive shadow technology, and Volvo On Call, Volvo’s ingenious connected smartphone app, which allows you to control various car functions remotely. R-Design Pro builds in this with 21-inch alloy wheels, electronic air suspension, and adaptive dampers. Inscription Pro has 20-inch alloy wheels, upgraded suspension, and massage function for the front seats. The optional Xenium package is available across the range, adding powered tilt and slide panoramic glass sunroof, a 360-degree surround view parking camera system, and Park Assist Pilot. Smartphone Integration is another option, and includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The XC60 is available to order now from Volvo retailers, with the first customer deliveries expected in late summer 2017.
