Production of the new Volvo XC60 has officially commenced at the company’s Torslanda plant in Sweden.
The model replaces the previous generation of the popular mid-sized SUV, which had been on sale for nine years and accounted for almost a third of all global Volvo sales.
The new XC60 brings with it a host of new technology, including Steer Assist, Oncoming Lane Mitigation, and Blind Spot Information System, while Pilot Assist - a semi-autonomous driver-assistance system, which takes care of the steering, acceleration and braking on well-marked roads up to 80mph - is available as an option.
The new XC60 also provides the option of plug-in hybrid power, in the form of Volvo’s 407bhp T8 Twin Engine. A new CleanZone four-zone climate control system removes harmful pollutants and particles from outside the cabin to deliver fresh air on the inside, and also on the inside is the latest Volvo infotainment package with smartphone integration.
The start of production will see the new XC60 gradually introduced to showrooms across the globe in the coming months.
