Volkswagen have confirmed more details about the next generation Touareg model.
The premium SUV will be unveiled in China, the largest global market for the Volkswagen Touareg, and the manufacturer has high hopes that the third generation model will prove as big a hit as the first two generations which sold close to one million units combined.
It will be the first Volkswagen Touareg to feature the fully digitalised Innovision Cockpit, which combines the 12-inch Digital Cockpit display and 15-inch Discover Premium infotainment system display to form a digital operating, information, communication and entertainment unit that largely removes the need for conventional buttons or switches. The Innovision Cockpit can also be used to adapt the assistance, handling and comfort system setting to personal tastes. Volkswagen also claims that the new Touareg will feature the largest range of assistance, handling and comfort systems it has ever integrated into one of its products, including technologies such as Night Vision assistance, Roadwork Lane Assist, Front Cross Traffic Assist, active all-wheel steering, new roll stabilisation with electromechanically controlled anti-roll bars, IQ.Light LED matrix headlights with interactive camera-based dipped and main beam headlight control, and a Windshield Head-up Display.
The Touareg will be slightly wider and longer than its predecessor, resulting in greater interior space and luggage capacity. Despite this, the body 106 kg lighter thanks to its 48% aluminium, 52% high-tech steel construction.
Initially, the European-spec Touareg will come with a choice of two V6 diesel engines, producing 228bhp and 282bhp respectively.
