Vauxhall have confirmed plans to unveil an all-new British-built Astra Sports Tourer at next week’s Frankfurt Motor Show.
Based on the recently launched all-new five-door Astra, the slightly arched sloping roofline Sports Tourer is packaged in the same dimensions of the outgoing model but Vauxhall’s designers have made greater use of the space with more room inside for passengers and luggage. The driver now has 26mm of extra headroom, while rear passengers have 28mm more. The new model is also up to 200kg lighter than the one it replaces, with the body shell alone having 20% of its overall weight slashed thanks to the use of lightweight materials. The use of high-strength, ultra-high-tensile low-weight steel resulted in a weight loss of 50kg on the chassis.
The total luggage capacity of the all-new Astra Sports Tourer is a cavernous 1,630-litres, and offers greater flexibility with its 40/20/40 foldable rear seat format. The tailgate can now be opened and closed by making a kicking motion under the rear bumper thanks to the new ‘Keyless Entry and Start’ system.
The new Astra Sports Tourer also boast Vauxhall’s new OnStar system with high-speed 4G LTE mobile connectivity, emergency response notification, and stolen vehicle recovery alert. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also available through the latest IntelliLink infotainment system.
Amongst the engine options are an all-new 1.4-litre ECOTEC Direct Injection Turbo, the recently introduced 1.6-litre CDTi Whisper Diesel, and a new 197bhp version of the 1.6-litre ECOTEC petrol power plant that shall also be given its world debut in Frankfurt.
