The order books for the Lexus RC F have now been opened, with UK deliveries of the all-new high-performance coupe expected to start in January.
Priced from £59,995, the Lexus RC F boasts a fearsome 471bhp 5.0-litre V8 power plant, and an eight-speed Sports Direct Shift transmission. The gearbox offers the driver a range of modes, from fuel-efficient Eco to full-up Sport S+, as well as the option of manual or sequential selection. The RC F includes the Lexus Vehicle Dynamic Integrated Management system, which now includes Sport and Expert settings, and the ingredients combine to produce a car which does 0-62mph in 4.5 seconds, and accelerates all the way to a top speed of 168mph. Grip and handling on the front-engine, rear-wheel drive RC F are optimised by an active rear wing and Torque Vectoring Differential. For an additional £8,000, the RC F Carbon version adds a Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastic bonnet, roof, and rear spoiler.
The RC F underwent much of its high-speed testing at the iconic Fuji Speedway circuit in Japan – hence the ‘F’ designation – and its on-track pedigree will be further enhanced when a version of the model enters the world of GT3 Sportscar racing next year.
Chief Engineer for the Lexus RC F project, Yukihiko Yaguchi, speaks proudly of his creation: “There’s a perception that many high-performance cars are hard to drive. In fact they’re easy in the right hands because they’ve been purpose-built for the skill level of their drivers. It’s the same with the RC F, which I have built to be enjoyed by all enthusiasts, no matter what their level of expertise. Electronics can be modified instantly on board to provide performance and protection appropriate to each driver’s abilities. But even in its basic settings, it’s a blast.”
