A new four-wheel drive, plug-in hybrid SUV from Suzuki will hit UK showrooms next month.

Called the Across, the new SUV is the result of a recent business partnership between Suzuki and Toyota, and will include a plug-in hybrid powertrain and electronic four-wheel drive system.

It will go on UK sale in November priced at £45,599, with a list of standard features including LED headlamps with a bi-beam projector, LED daytime running lights, 19-inch alloy wheels with black gloss coating and polished face. A 490-litre capacity boot includes a mains voltage electrical outlet and a 12-volt accessory socket. The Across is available in six different colours – White Pearl Crystal Shine, Silver Metallic, Attitude Black Mica, Sensual Red Mica, Grey Metallic and Dark Blue Mica.

With a 46-mile all-electric range and CO2 emissions from just 22g/km, the plug-in hybrid system makes the most its 2.5-litre petrol engine and 18.1kWh lithium-ion battery. The system offers four modes - EV Mode where the vehicle is driven using electric power alone, Auto EV/HV mode and HV mode where the petrol engine contributes to power delivery when required, and battery charger mode which runs the engine to fully re-charge the battery.

The E-Four electronic 4x4 system features an independent 40kW rear motor that works with the front motor to provide torque variation ranging from 100:00 to 20:80, giving extra stability during start-off on slippery surfaces. Its AWD Integrated Management controls engine throttle control, transmission shift scheduling, Electric Power Steering assistance, and braking, according to the driving conditions. Trail Mode uses an automatic limited slip di?erential control feature to ensure the best possible grip and control on slippery surfaces.

Safety features include Pre-Collision System, Lane Tracing Assist, and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control.
