Volkswagen have launched a new flagship Golf GTI model.
Called the Golf GTI TCR, the 286bhp model can do up to 164mph, and goes from 0-62mph in just 5.6 seconds.
Priced from £34,135 on-the-road, the TCR is inspired by Volkswagen’s two-time International Touring Car Racing winner. The four-cylinder, 16-valve engine hits peak power at 5,400rpm, with its full 280 lb-ft of torque available all the way between 1,800 and 5,300rpm. That, coupled with a 7-speed DSG transmission offers excellent performance response. The brakes have been upgraded to match, with perforated discs and special brake pads, and two extra water radiators for improved cooling. Combined fuel consumption is 42.2 mpg and official CO2 emissions are 153 g/km.
The Golf GTI TCR is fitted with 18-inch Quaranta alloy wheels and 225/40 R18 tyres as standard, and is further marked out by distinctive front and rear bumpers, matte black exterior mirrors, and TCR motif on the rear quarter panel. Inside are exclusive TCR seats, leather-trimmed multifunction steering wheel with a track-inspired red marker at the 12 o’clock position, Alcantara-finished gear gater, and a TCR logo which is projected onto the street below when the door is opened.
A £2,000 option pack adds 19-inch Reifnitz alloy wheels, suspension lowered by 20 mm and fitted with Dynamic Chassis Control, and the top speed restriction removed. A new Pure Grey paint colour can also be added, and can be complemented by exclusive optional honeycomb decals on the side of the car, and an optional black roof.
Order books are open now, with the first examples scheduled to hit the UK next month.
