Order books have opened for the new Audi SQ7 TDI, with prices for the luxury SUV starting from £70,970 on-the-road.
It brings with it two firsts for the Audi Q7; it is the first ever S version of the luxury SUV and also the first to contain the latest electric-powered compressor technology that eliminates turbo lag from the 4.0-litre V8 diesel engine. The 429bhp power plant propels the SQ7 TDI from 0-62mph in just 4.9 seconds and to a limited top speed of 155mph, while returning a combined 39.2mpg and CO2 emissions of 190g/km.
The 48-volt lithium-ion battery for the compressor is also used to provide power for an electromechanical active roll stabilisation system, reducing both roll and understeer. A sport differential controlling torque distribution to the rear wheels is a new option on theSQ7 TDI, as is all-wheel-steering. Sporty performance is aided by a lightweight multimaterial construction, aerodynamically-optimised body, and adaptive air suspension.
The SQ7 TDI is distinguished from other models in the Audi Q7 range by a unique radiator grille design, an aluminium finish for the side air inlets, mirror housings and door inlays, LED headlights with a double-arrow light signature and an exhaust system branching into four rectangular tailpipes. Inside the cabin the seats are finished in Valcona leather, and when the third row of seats are electrically-lowered the boot space grows from 235 litres1,890 litres.
The Audi Virtual Cockpit with smartphone interface and MMI Navigation is fully digital, while new to the Q7 range is an embedded SIM card to which accesses the Internet-based Audi Connect service at no additional cost and without the need to insert a separate data-only SIM card. Audi Connect infotainment comes free for three years with the Technology Package, and includes Audi phonebox for wireless smartphone connection, inductive charging, and a head-up display. Audi Connect safety & service includes the myCarManager package, summoning help from the emergency or roadside assistance services via the touch of a roof lining-mounted button.
Options available include 22-inch alloy wheels, Matrix LED headlamps, S Sport seats plus with contrasting diamond stitching and two optional 3D surround-sound systems from Bose and Bang & Olufsen.
