The most powerful production MINI ever will debut at next month’s Detroit Auto Show.
The new 231bhp 2.0-litre TwinPower Turbo-engined MINI John Cooper Works will go on sale in late April, priced from £22,865.
The new model comes with a package of suspension, brake, aerodynamic and interior modifications, and delivers 10 per more torque than the previous MINI JCW. The 0-62 mph time has been improved too, falling by 0.2 seconds to 6.3 seconds for the six-speed manual version, and by 0.6 seconds to 6.1 seconds for the optional six-speed Steptronic sports transmission model. Thanks to the increased torque, performance between 50-75mph is now 10 per cent quicker, but the combined fuel economy figure is still 42.2mpg with the manual box, with 155g/km of CO2 emissions, rising to 49.5mpg with the Steptronic transmission with CO2 emissions of just 133g/km.
To handle the increased power and torque, the new MINI JCW features specially-tuned suspension, Servotronic electromechanical power steering, and four-piston Brembo brakes. The model also gets Dynamic Stability Control, Dynamic Traction Control, Electronic Differential Lock Control, and Performance Control, while Dynamic Damper Control is optional.
Aerodynamic changes have also been made to enhance the new MINI JCW’s performance, including a new front apron with large air intakes, side sills, rear apron, and John Cooper Works Spoiler. Aesthetically, the new MINI JCW features LED headlamps with white indicators, wheel-arch surrounds, and John Cooper Works branded radiator grille, side scuttles, and tailgate, as well as new exclusive colour option; Rebel Green.
The new MINI JCW also includes a twin-tailpipe sports exhaust, and 17-inch John Cooper Works Spoke light-alloy wheels. An 18-inch version of the John Cooper Works alloys can be specified as an extra.
Inside the car are exclusive bucket seats with integrated headrests, a multi-function steering wheel with shift paddles, and stainless steel pedals and footrest.
Options unique to the new MINI JCW include a model-specific Head-Up display with rev lights and gear indicator, Chili Red roof and mirror covers, bonnet stripes, all of which are in addition to the existing list of extras available on the MINI range.
