The resurrected Morris Commercial has this week unveiled its first new battery electric light commercial vehicle at the London Design Museum.
The Morris JE will look familiar, taking its design inspiration from the iconic J-Type van produced by the original Morris Commercial in the 1950s.
Those distinctive retro looks will come at a premium, with the retail price of the new JE expected to be around £60,000 when it enters production in 2021.
Based on a UK-built, pure electric, lithium-ion battery powertrain and lightweight, modular chassis, topped with a carbon fibre body, the Morris JE will boast class-leading power-to-weight efficiency and a range of around 200 miles. Although the JE falls into the lightest 2.5 tonne segment of the commercial vehicle market, its 1 tonne payload and 5.5 cubic metre cargo area will enable it to compete with larger competitors. It can accommodate two standard Euro pallets via the full width rear doors and nearside sliding door.
Morris Commercial Limited, founded by Dr Qu Li, is a UK-based start-up manufacturer who plan to concentrate exclusively on electrified, zero emissions commercial vehicles.
