Mitsubishi is set to reveal its new Outlander Plug-in Hybrid EV at the 2012 Paris Motor Show.
The Outlander Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) is something of a first in the field of electric vehicles, sharing its architecture with the petrol- and diesel-powered versions of the new Outlander. As such, the Outlander is capable of housing both an internal combustion engine and a hybrid powertrain from the outset.
The Outlander PHEV will also be the first permanent four-wheel drive hybrid to go into production.
The Outlander's drivetrain is comprised of two electric motors (front and rear) and a petrol engine which sends its power to the front wheels. This means drivers will have a choice of three driving modes: Pure (all-electric), Series (electric, supported by the engine as a generator), and Parallel (petrol engine, supported by the electric motors).
Mitsubishi claims that the Outlander PHEV will have a range of over 500 miles and a CO2 target of less than 50g/km.
The new Outlander is expected to go on sale next year.
