MINI have announced plans to unveil a new concept model at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit later this month, and have boldly proclaimed to have created a completely new class of vehicle.

The crossover design of the MINI Paceman Concept makes it, according to the manufacturer, the world's first small 'Sports Activity Coupe'. Taking features from both the iconic MINI design and the Countryman, it fuses them in a coupe style. The four-seater MINI Paceman Concept has two large side doors, and MINI insists it also retains the handling qualities synonymous with the marque.

The MINI Paceman Concept takes centre stage in MINI's Detroit line up to celebrate ten years since the relaunch of the MINI brand in North America. The 2011 North American International Auto Show, which starts on 10th January, will also see MINI launch the Countryman in North America.
