A one-off concept based on the McLaren MP4-12C has been unveiled at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.

It's called the X-1 and although it looks like something from 'Blade Runner', it's a standard MP4-12C underneath.

The X-1 has been created for an anonymous customer by McLaren's Special Operations division which is responsible for creating bespoke cars for wealthy customers.

McLaren has been developing the X-1 for a full two-and-a-half years -- the design alone took 18 months and is the work of McLaren's Royal College of Art graduate Hong Yeo.

McLaren claims that the X-1 was inspired by classic models as diverse as the 1939 Mercedes 540K and the Citroen SM -- hence the enclosed rear wheel arches which lift up should you need to access the wheel beneath.

McLaren has been tight-lipped on how much they're charging for the X-1, but given the amount of time and effort the Woking firm has put into it, we're guessing it's a tad on the pricey side.
