Well, the writing has been on the wall ever since the McLaren 650S wowed the crowds at the Geneva Motor Show last month, but now the company has made it official: the McLaren 12C is no more. It has ceased to be. It is an ex-supercar.
McLaren 650S revealed in Geneva
"After three years of 12C production, this represents a natural evolution of our model line-up," said McLaren CEO Bob Flewitt in a letter to existing 12C owners.
"The new car has been so well received since its unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show (we already have a six month order bank) we will focus all our capacity at the McLaren Production Centre on 650S."
Around 3,500 examples of the 12C have been sold since the car was launched back in 2011.
Naturally, existing owners of the 12C would be forgiven for feeling just a tiny bit miffed at the moment; however, McLaren is sweetening the pill by offering all 12C owners a free upgrade package, retro-fitting elements from the 650S.
The new Active Aero software, the drag reduction system and the new car's Android-based infotainment system will all be offered as part of the package, and two new cost options -- a reversing camera and a DAB radio -- are also being offered.
Customers will be contacted by McLaren about the upgrades available in due course.
