Mazda are celebrating an important milestone after production of the CX-5 passed the one million mark.

The one-millionth example of the multi award-winning compact SUV rolled off the assembly line at the end of last month despite the model only entering production a little over three years ago. The only other Mazda to have reached the million mark in a shorter time is the Mazda3.

When the CX-5 debuted in 2012 it was the first offering from Mazda to boast the full range of the Japanese carmaker’s SKYACTIV technology. More than 19,000 have been sold in the UK since launch and it is Mazda’s best selling model in a number of European markets, including Germany, but it has proved even more popular closer to home. The CX-5 was the best selling SUV in its domestic Japanese market in both 2012 and 2013.

Masashi Otsuka, programme manager responsible for the Mazda CX-5 said: “I am delighted to see the CX-5 reach the 1 million unit mark in only three years and five months.  I would like to express my gratitude to the people all over the world who have appreciated and supported the CX-5”.
