An exciting new road-going version of the Lotus Elise Cup R racer has entered production following an extensive development and testing programme.
The new model, called the Lotus Elise S Cup, has been in the pipeline for sometime, honing its impressive performance figures both at Lotus' own Hethel test track facility and at the legendary Nurburgring in Germany.
The Elise S Cup lapped the manufacturer’s Hethel track fully three seconds quicker than its Elise S sibling, going from 0-60mph in just 4.2 seconds and to a top speed of 140mph. The Elise S Cup’s track credentials have been further aided by the inclusion of a range of aerodynamic features designed to dramatically increase the car’s downforce at speed. These include an eye-catching front splitter with end winglets, lateral bargeboards, fixed roof, tail wing, and rear diffuser. Those features provide an additional 125kg of downforce at top speed, and the Elise S Cup also boasts a 217bhp engine which produces 184lb-ft of torque at 4,600rpm.
With the track day enthusiast firmly in mind, the new model is equipped with a T45 specification roll-hoop, which allows for upgrading to competition harnesses and roll cage.
Jean-Marc Gales, CEO Group Lotus plc, said: "This engaging new model accentuates the pure driving competence elicited by Lotus. Light, agile and significantly faster on-track than the standard Elise S, it will appeal to competition-minded enthusiasts."
Order books for the new Lotus Elise S Cup are open now, with UK prices starting from £43,500.
