Lotus have unveiled their fastest and most expensive production car to date at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
Called the Lotus 3-Eleven, the model features an all-new lightweight open cockpit design powered by a 450bhp, supercharged V6 engine.
Road and race versions of the 3-Eleven will be available, with the latter gaining an advanced aero kit, sequential gearbox, and an FIA-approved driver’s seat with a six-point harness. Weighing less than 900kg, the race version boasts an impressive power-to-weight ratio of over 500bhp per tonne. It will do 0-60mph in under three seconds, topping out at 174mph.
Prices for the road version, which is capable of up to 180mph, start from £82,000, while the race model is priced from £96,000 + VAT. Just 311 examples will be built in total, with production due to begin next February.
Lotus Chief Executive Jean-Marc Gales said, "We always say that to make a sports car better, you make it faster and lighter. The new Lotus 3-Eleven carries that philosophy to a new level, and is perfectly in keeping with our brand values. This new car is a giant slayer, capable of embarrassing far more expensive rivals. It condenses our engineering know-how into one, hard-core package, and is so focused that it won’t suit everyone. This is a perfect demonstration of the faster and lighter concept, something which will be crucial to all Lotus cars in the future.”
