October saw the debut of the new Polo GTI at the Paris Motor Show; now UK showrooms will be taking orders with deliveries expected in March 2015.
Under the bonnet will be a 1.8 litre turbocharged petrol engine capable of delivering 192 PS which represents an increase of 12 PS on the previous model. Buyers will be given the choice between a manual six speed gearbox and an automatic 7 speed option.
Volkswagen have always strived to pack a punch into their GTI offerings and the latest generation Polo GTI is no different; it will reach 62mph from a standstill in 6.7 seconds and will hit a maximum of 146mph. Attention to performance has not distracted them from their usual focus on efficiency, the latest Polo GTI offers a combined fuel consumption of 50.4mpg.
Design features will follow in the footsteps of the Golf GTI and will stand out from the standard Polo with new bumpers, 17-inch ‘Parabolica’ alloy wheels and sports suspension lowered by 10mm at the front and 15mm at the rear. LED lights will come as standard and chrome dual exhaust pipes will give the sporty finish that GTI enthusiasts have grown to love.
The Polo GTI is expected to cost £18,850 RRP OTR for the three door manual with a £630 premium for five doors and £1,245 for the DSG gearbox.
