Spool your mind back to the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year and you'll recall Lamborghini unveiling the Veneno, a 740bhp carbon-fibre hypercar based on the Aventador.
Designed by Lamborghini as a sort-of 50th birthday present to itself, the Veneno was fitted with the same 6.5-litre V12 as the Aventador but got some angular new bodywork and £2.75m price tag. Oh yes, and only three were ever built. And they were all sold before the car was revealed to the public.
It was, in short, completely bonkers. However, Lamborghini -- in typical Lambo fashion -- obviously though that the Veneno could be made slightly more insane if they lopped off its roof. So that's what they've done.
The result is this: the Lamborghini Veneno Roadster, and the first thing you need to know about it is that it has no roof. No folding hard-top, no poorly-designed removable canvas tent, nothing.
As a result of this, Lamborghini claims that the Veneno "guarantees an intense driving experience;" allowing the driver to hear to demonic bark of that monstrous V12 nice and clearly. There's one small concession to common sense in the form of a roll bar, which will stop your cranium becoming a structural component in the event of a rollover crash, but that's about it.
Lamborghini also claims that the Veneno Roadster weighs 1,490kg -- 100kg less than the Aventador which it is based. As a result, 62mph arrives in 2.9 seconds and flat out you'll be doing a very windy 220mph.
It all sounds brilliant; however, there is a caveat. If you're one of those people who values exclusivity, you might be annoyed to hear that while the Veneno was limited to just three units, Lambo will be producing nine Veneno Roadsters, making the drop-top THREE TIMES more common than the hard-top. On the plus side, buyers can spec their cars in any colour they want so it's highly unlikely any two will ever be the same.
Each car will cost in the region of £3million.
