Production of the all-new Kia Sorento Hybrid SUV has begun.
The fourth-generation Sorento is the first to boast a plug-in hybrid version. The first models to leave the factory in Hwasung, Korea, are destined for the European market, soon to be followed by the US facility in West Point, Georgia for the North American market.
The Sorento Hybrid has Kia’s new Smartstream electrified, pairing a 1.6-litre T-GDi petrol engine with a 1.49 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery pack and a 44.2 kW electric motor. With the battery pack located under the floor, this has minimal impact on cabin or luggage space. Power output is 227bhp, transferred via a six-speed automatic gearbox.
UK pricing has yet to be announced, with sales not due to start until the Autumn.
