In a boost for UK jobs Jaguar Land Rover has announced a £450m investment in its Midlands-based Engine Manufacturing Centre.
As a result the plant will double in size to 200,000sqm and will see several hundred jobs created in addition to the 700 already employed at the site which has now seen £1billion in investment.
The plant, which only opened last year, produces the low emission Ingenium engine which powers the Jaguar XE and the Land Rover Discovery Sport, building over 50,000 units so far. The latest expansion plans will see the site take on production of engines for all three of the firm's UK vehicle plants.
"We are proud to be such a significant investor in advanced manufacturing in Britain and are excited by this expansion and the new jobs it will create", said Jaguar Land Rover CEO Dr Ralf Speth.
In other related news, Land Rover celebrated 45 years of Range Rover last week by driving one over a bridge constructed entirely of paper. The feat was achieved in conjunction with British artist Steve Messam and specialist British paper manufacturer James Cropper PLC. No glue or bolts were used to build the 5m structure in Suzhou, China. Impressive stuff.
