Jaguar Land Rover are celebrating after new figures cemented their position as the UK’s largest automotive manufacturer.
New figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders show the company produced 544,401 vehicles last year, 30% of all domestic car production.
Jaguar Land Rover’s three vehicle production plants in Merseyside and the West Midlands have increased their output by a spectacular 240% over the past seven years, when total production was just 158,000 units.
Investment during that time has seen 15 all-new or significantly enhanced models join the market, and the high-volume Jaguar F-PACE alone has upped those production numbers by 67%. A £4billion investment in UK manufacturing facilities, including Europe’s largest aluminium body shop and two new press lines, and the development of the Ingenium range of advanced diesel engines has also fuelled Jaguar Land Rover’s growth.
Jaguar’s manufacturing workforce has grown accordingly, from 7,700 in 2010 to over 19,000 today.
With Jaguar Land Rover committing to a further £3billion worth of investment during the current financial year, there are high hopes for the company to remain a major UK success story.
