The Infiniti Q30 -- a rival for the likes of the BMW 1 Series and Mercedes A-Class -- will be previewed by a new concept car which will go on show at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month.
Infiniti has released a teaser sketch of the new car, which it says will incorporate design cues from previous Infiniti concepts, such as the Essence, the Etherea and the Emerge-e.
Formula One world champion Sebastian Vettel will help influence the design of the new Q30, having already worked on honing the driving dynamics of the larger Q50.
The company claims that the Q30 concept is a key model in its global expansion plans. Currently, the Infiniti model range consists entirely of high-end vehicles, with the cheapest model in the range costing around £35,000. A lower-priced model is therefore essential if Infiniti wants to achieve its ambitious sales goals.
It's good news for UK manufacturing too. More than 60,000 Q30s will be built at parent company Nissan's Sunderland factory annually, once the showroom model goes into production in 2015. This is expected to create a further 280 jobs at the factory and around an extra 700 in the supply chain.
