The new Hyundai i-oniq concept car will be officially presented at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show on the 6th of March.

Although Hyundai has already revealed the first image of its new vehicle, the official unveiling won't take place until March.

Hyundai has referred to the new i-oniq as a 'Future Thinking' car, combining technology and design.

Measuring 4.4 metres long, the i-oniq has room for four people. The carmaker created the i-oniq by combining gentle feature lines with a strong surface treatment, conveying both "premium and sporty qualities evident in both the exterior and interior of the car."

Once the vehicle is in electric-only mode, i-oniq has a range of 120 km. In contrast, with the assistance of a petrol engine it can travel up to 700km, generating 45g/km of CO2.

The vehicle's 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine is mated, via a generator, to a lithium ion electric motor which produces 108bhp.

Senior Vice President and COO of Hyundai Motor Europe, Allan Rushforth, commented on the car:

"The i-oniq concept has been created to reflect the new thinking that runs through the Hyundai brand. It has a bold design, inside and out, that provokes contemplation on the future of automotive possibilities, and a powertrain that highlights one of the ways in which we could power future products - wrapped in a package that exudes premium qualities."

Carmaker of the Year

The annual AM Magazine Awards ceremony recently named Hyundai Carmaker of the Year. For the second time in three years, the car maker won ahead of other competitive manufacturers such as Land Rover and Skoda.

The independent judging panel, led by AM's Editor Jeremy Bennett, pointed out Hyundai's constant growth in sales, its line-up of well-designed and generously equipped new models, and its range-spanning five-year warranty.
