Hyundai has revealed the new Intrado, a hydrogen fuel-cell concept which will be making its debut at the Geneva Motor Show next week.
Taking its name from the area underneath an aeroplane's wing -- the part of the aircraft which creates lift -- the Intrado is Hyundai's attempt to design a car which provides "what consumers will need and expect of their cars in the near future."
Essentially a crossover-coupe of sorts, the Intrado is designed around a central carbon-fibre with a body constructed of super lightweight steel. Designed by Peter Schreyer, the man responsible for the original Audi TT and more recently Kia's model line-up, the Intrado is a striking car, not least because of its eye-catching black and orange interior. Schreyer has also incorporated aspects of the car's structure into the cabin, with the transmission tunnel showing the carbon frame underneath.
Power comes from a next-generation hydrogen fuel-cell powertrain which utilises a 36kWh battery and which will give a range of 372-miles and emit only water. Hyundai also promises a responsive and agile driving experience thanks to the car's low weight and the efficiency of its powertrain.
Design president Peter Schreyer said of the Intrado concept: "Effortless and sensual, Intrado reflects the open-mindedness and constant renewal of the Hyundai brand. It also shows that Hyundai wants its customers to rediscover the joy and freedom that should be associated with personal mobility.
"That's why this car has such purity of purpose -- it's logical, lovable and liveable."
The Geneva Motor Show begins on 4 March.
