In a new development, Honda has used 3D printing to produce a lightweight ‘Micro Commuter’ electric vehicle in partnership with technology pioneers Kabuku Inc.
The short range vehicle is powered by Honda’s existing Micro EV technology and is based on the company’s lightweight pipe frame chassis structure, but its exterior panels and luggage space have been constructed using the latest in 3D printing techniques. Honda claim the model to be one of the largest products produced using 3D printing, a method which could be used increasingly in vehicle manufacture in the future.
The model is more than just a concept, and will be used by Japanese confectionary firm Toshiyama to deliver their famous ‘Hato sable’ dove-shaped shortbreads. The delivery vehicle will have room of a driver and his goods, and will boast a top speed of 43mph.
