Last month we told you that American tuning company Hennessey Performance had taken a standard Ferrari 458 and given it 738bhp, turning what was already a very fast car into an underpant-ruiningly fast car.
Hennessey Performance creates 738bhp Ferrari 458
Well, now it seems as if Hennessey has turned its hand towards the Ferrari's arch-rival, the McLaren MP4-12C, and created this, the HPE700. And we're pleased to say that the results are similarly impressive.
In creating the HPE700, Hennessey has kept the McLaren's stock 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 engine but has boosted the power output from 625bhp to 704bhp and the torque figure from 443lb-ft to 538lb-ft. Hennessey claims that the HPE700 will get from 0-62mph in 2.8 seconds -- the same as the Hennessey-tweaked 458 -- and run the quarter mile in 10.3 seconds at a top speed of 137mph.
Hennessey has achieved the performance increase by tweaking the McLaren's ECU, adding a new stainless steel exhaust and upgrading the car's intercoolers and air filters.
Due to the extra performance, Hennessey has had to fit a water/methanol injection system to cool the charge at high boost pressures to reduce the threat of detonation.
Apart from this, the Hennessey McLaren looks disarmingly similar to the standard car -- only a handful of Hennessey badges hint at the performance at the extra power within.
Hennessey has not announced how much the HPE700 will cost; however, given the fact that the standard MP4-12C will set you back £176,000, we can't imagine it'll be cheap.
