The Volkswagen Camper Van is set to go out of production at the end of the year, 63 years after it was originally introduced.
To be honest, we were surprised to learn that it was still in production at all -- VW stopped selling the old Type 2 camper in the UK sometime in the late 1970s -- but the model has been in continuous production in Brazil since 1976.

Unfortunately, new safety legislation is forcing the Kombi out of production. From the beginning of 2014, all Brazilian cars must have ABS and driver and passenger airbags, and for the old VW bus to comply with these new regulations, it would have to be completely redesigned.
