General Motors has announced it is to drop the Chevrolet brand in Europe by the end of 2015 to focus its attentions on the Opel and Vauxhall brands.
The Chevrolet brand has failed to build a substantial following in Europe following its relaunch back in 2005 and the poor sales achieved by the brand have contributed to the decision to axe it. Vauxhall and Opel are also struggling in a highly competitive marketplace.
Speaking to Reuters, Stephen J. Girsky, GM vice chairman said: "We have growing confidence in the Opel and Vauxhall brands in Europe. We are focusing our resources in mainstream Europe."
The decision to axe the brand was reportedly not influence by GM's partnership with Peugeot. Girsky said: "This is done independent of the PSA relationship".
"The financial results have been unacceptable," he added, commenting on the poor sales achieved by the brand.
The current Chevrolet line-up consists of the Aveo, Cruze, Camaro, Captiva, Orlando, Spark, Trax and Volt.
