The enormous Burj Khalifa was the venue for the grand introduction of the new Mustang as Ford seek to open up new markets in the Middle East.
The unveiling took the form of an action packed show in which the iconic pony badge was delivered to the 112th floor of the skyscraper by a mysterious hero. He began his journey on a cliff top in Arizona before horse riding, flying, driving and jet-skiing all the way to Dubai, only to be revealed as none other than Bill Ford, grandson of Henry Ford.
This year has seen the birth of Ford’s Middle East and Africa business unit which will oversee their operations across 67 markets in the region. They predict that sales in the area will increase by 40% by the year 2020 and reach 5.5 million vehicles. Ford have responded to the demand by promising to launch 25 vehicles in the region by 2016, the Mustang will be one of them and will debut next year.
“Today we planted the Ford flag in the Middle East & Africa, an exciting, vibrant region that represents the final frontier for growth in the auto industry,” Bill Ford said. “We also sent a message to the world that Mustang is going global after 50 years as America’s greatest motoring icon.”
