Ford are reporting almost 2,000 UK orders for the new Mustang as the manufacturer prepares to start delivery of the first right-hand drive models later this year.
Priced at £29,995, the first right-hand drive examples destined for these shores have now begun to roll off the production lines in Flatrock, Michigan. Unexpectedly high UK demand for the first Mustang ever to be produced in right-hand drive form has led to Ford increasing supply.
The fastback is overwhelmingly the body style of choice for UK buyers, with 80 per cent choosing it over the convertible. Almost three quarters have specified the 5.0-litre V8 despite the 2.3-litre EcoBoost option offering greater fuel economy. More than half of UK buyers have ordered the Custom Pack which adds SatNav, 12-speaker audio system, heated and cooled front seats, rear view camera, Luster Nickel silver alloy wheels and extra chrome detailing on fastback models. Race Red is the colour of choice for almost a quarter of UK buyers, making it the most popular hue, while Ebony Black is the top choice for interior colour having been selected by 75 per cent of customers.
