Ford has revealed the pricing and specification details for its new Fiesta ST, which is due to go on sale in the UK in the spring.
The latest hot version of Britain's best-selling car, which made its US debut at the LA Motor Show last November, will be priced from £16,995.
Under the bonnet, the ST will get a turbocharged 1.6-litre EcoBoost engine which sends its 178bhp to the front wheels via a six speed manual gearbox. 0-62mph will take 6.9 seconds, exactly the same as a Renaultsport Clio 200. But, despite the impressive performance credentials, Ford claims the ST will achieve "class-leading fuel efficiency" and emit just 139g/km of CO2.
The standard Fiesta is no slouch in the handling department; however, Ford tested the new ST extensively at the Nurburgring to make sure the new car's driving dynamics were up to scratch. The ST also gets Torque Vectoring Control, a system which is claimed to give you more grip when cornering; and an ESP system with three modes: 'On', 'Wide Slip' (which turns the traction control off but leaves the ESP on), and 'Off'.
Ford has given the ST a more aggressive look than the standard Fiesta, with bigger alloy wheels, flared wheelarches, a boot spoiler and bigger bumpers.
On the inside, Recaro sports seats come as standard. All STs also come with Ford's SYNC system which lets you control your music and phone with voice commands, and the MyKey system, which allows you to limit the performance of the car if you're lending it to someone else.
