Ford have added a new lifestyle crossover version of the Fiesta, with added ride height, extra technology, and rugged exterior features.

The Ford Fiesta Active will come in three specifications – the Active 1, Active B&O PLAY, and the Active X – and will boast Active badging and distinct styling cues, rough-road suspension with increased ride height, roof rails, front fog lights and 17-inch five-spoke alloy wheels.  There will be three selectable drive modes - Eco, Normal and Slippery - and for rough-terrain driving there is the inclusion of Ford’s Electronic Stability Programme with Hill Start Assist.

Other features include lane-keeping technology, rear seat belt minder, rear centre headrest, auto headlamps, Quickclear heated windscreen, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, electric front and rear windows, rear privacy glass, driver seat height and lumbar adjustment, air-conditioning, and Ford’s SYNC 3 communications and entertainment system.

The B&O PLAY version is distinguished by a black roof with black roof rails and matching electrically operated and heated door mirrors, and boasts a B&O PLAY premium audio system with 360-degree sound and 10 speakers.  It also has cruise control, rain sensing wipers, auto-dimming rear view mirror, a centre console with armrest and illuminated cup holders, and a 4.2-inch TFT instrument cluster screen with traffic sign recognition.

On the Active X comes even more equipment, including partial leather upholstery with heated front seats, power-foldable door mirrors with puddle lights, Ford SYNC 3 Navigation system with DAB radio and 8-inch touchscreen, KeyFree system with keyless entry and start, and a rear-view camera with rear parking sensors.

Powered by the multi-award-winning 1.0-litre Ford EcoBoost petrol engine and new six-speed manual gearbox, the Ford Fiesta Active is capable of 105g/km of CO2 emissions.  It is also available in 1.5-litre TDCi diesel form, with CO2 from 96g/km.  Economy is aided by Auto Start Stop technology, while a new Eco button for manual transmissions adjusts engine and throttle settings to help drivers save even more fuel.

With a five-star Euro NCAP rating, all models feature driver and front passenger airbags, front side impact airbags and front and side rear curtain airbags.  An anti-lock braking system with electronic brake-force distribution ensures controlled deceleration if heavy braking is required, during which the Fiesta’s hazard lights and brake lights flash automatically to warn following vehicles of the potential emergency, while Electronic Stability Control senses when a vehicle is losing grip and automatically applies a braking pulse to individual wheels, stabilising it.

Prices start from £17,790 for the new Fiesta Active 1, with B&O PLAY from £19,190, and Active X from £20,290.
