The first pictures of the all-new Vauxhall Insignia Grand Sport have been released by the manufacturer.
Based on completely new vehicle architecture, the Vauxhall Insignia Grand Sport will be officially unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March, but images released this week show the revised styling that gives the new model improved aerodynamic efficiency and weight saving of up to 175kg compared with the current Insignia.
Both the interior and exterior design of the new Insignia Grand Sport are inspired by Vauxhall’s Monza Concept, and while the length remains similar to its predecessor, the new generation car utilises lightweight materials to make those weight savings. The roof is 29mm lower and its track 11mm wider, while the overhangs have been reduced and the wheelbase enlarged by 92mm. A lower, more prominent grille and slim-line headlamps are also design cues from the Monza Concept. The side window graphics feature an upper chrome strip, while a coupé-like roofline with integrated LED stop lamp enhances the sleek appearance. The rear also features a double-wing LED signature.
Inside, the driver’s seat is 3cm lower than before, and the centre console has been redesigned to make the controls more accessible. Next generation IntelliLux LED matrix lighting, Lane Keep Assist, Head-up Display, AGR-certified premium seats, front- and rear-seat heating and a heated windshield are some of the confirmed features of the Insignia Grand Sport, while the latest generation IntelliLink infotainment system comes with Vauxhall OnStar. A new concierge service will be launched together with the Insignia Grand Sport, enabling its occupants to ask OnStar advisors to select a hotel and proceed to room reservation. The car will also provide a Wi-Fi Hotspot for up to seven devices.
Engine and gearbox options will be announced closer to launch, but Vauxhall have confirmed extended gear ratios for optimal performance, and that a new intelligent all-wheel drive system with two electrically controlled multi-plate clutches will be available. This will provide torque vectoring - controlled torque distribution to individual wheels – so when cornering additional torque will betransmitted to the outside rear wheel, enabling the Insignia Grand Sport to corner more precisely. ‘Standard’, ‘Sport’ or ‘Tour’ modes can be chosen, dictating how responsive the steering and throttle inputs are and when the ESP anti-skid system intervenes.
