Volvo’s first all-electric model has gone on UK sale priced from £53,155 on-the-road.

The Volvo XC40 Recharge Pure Electric P8 can cover 249 miles on a single charge, and can be recharged to 80% capacity in just 40 minutes.  Twin electric motors produce 408bhp, giving the model a 0-62mph time of 4.9 seconds.  Other benefits of the switch from internal combustion are an increase in luggage space, with an extra 30-litre compartment fitted under the bonnet.

It is also the first Volvo to come equipped with the latest Google Android-powered infotainment system, which has services such as Google Maps, Google Assistant, and other automotive apps built in, as well as the first to feature a new version of the semi-autonomous Pilot Assist system which deploys steering, acceleration, and braking support.

First UK deliveries are expected in early 2021.
