It has been 40 years since Ferrari produced its first mid-rear-engine V8, the 488 GTB represents a new chapter in its 8 cylinder story.
The new model takes advantage of the knowledge and experience gained over decades of competing in F1, WEC and the XX program which produces extreme track only cars for bespoke customers. They have collated data from across this design spectrum and used it to refine the electronic and vehicle control systems in this most recent offering.
The 488 GTB comes with a new 3902cc V8 turbo engine which is at the top of its class for power, torque and response times; it provides 670cv at 8,000rpm and a maximum 760Nm torque in seventh gear. These qualities allow the 488 GTB to accelerate from 0-200 km/h in 8.3 seconds.
Aerodynamics play a huge part in the performance of this latest model with a 1.67 efficiency figure being a new record for a production Ferrari; down force has been boosted by 50% since the previous model and drag has been reduced.
The Geneva Motor Show will play host to the unveiling of the 488 GTB but in the meantime enthusiasts can get a first glimpse on Ferrari’s official website.
