Euro NCAP has released it latest batch of crash-test results, with 14 of the 15 cars tested achieving the full five-star safety rating.

The cars tested included the Fiat 500L, the new Ford Fiesta, the Ford Kuga, the Hyundai Santa Fe, the Mercedes-Benz A-Class, the Dacia Lodgy, the Vauxhall Mokka, the Mitsubishi Outlander, the SEAT Toledo, the Skoda Rapid, the Subaru Forester, the new Range Rover and the Volvo V60 Plug-In Hybrid.

Of these cars, only the Dacia Lodgy failed to score a five-star rating, achieving just three stars.

Although Dacia has no plans to sell the Lodgy in the UK, this result will do the firm's reputation no good at all, especially considering that a five-star rating is now the norm for all new cars. The Dacia Duster, which will be sold in the UK, also scored just three stars when it was tested in 2011.

Euro NCAP singled out the Volvo V60's rating for special praise, noting that the hybrid model performed very similarly to its petrol-powered brother, despite its powertrain adding nearly 350kg to its weight. Euro NCAP also commended the advanced driver technologies fitted to the VW Golf, the Ford Fiesta and the Mercedes A-Class.
