The Volkswagen e-up!, the all-electric version of the German carmaker’s popular up! city car range, has gone on UK sale priced from £20,780 on-the-road.
The zero emissions model is powered by an 81bhp electric motor which can travel up to 93 miles between charges, and which can take just half-an-hour to be recharged by 80%. A full charge from a standard domestic plug takes nine hours, while a 3.6kW wall box is available that can reduce a full charge to six hours.
The lithium-ion battery powered e-up! can do 0-62mph in 12.4 seconds to a top speed of 80mph. Despite a 230kg battery, weight-saving measures mean the model tips the scales at less than its conventionally-powered siblings.
Creature comforts include electronic air conditioning, leather-trimmed steering wheel, chrome-trimmed interior details, cruise control, parking sensors, automatic windscreen wipers, and dusk sensor which automatically activates the headlights, all as standard, while chunky front bumpers with ‘C’ signature LED running lights, angular rear bumper with prominent diffuser panel, and redesigned tail light arrange help the e-up! stand out from the crowd. Technology features include a smartphone docking station which enables the driver’s phone to be turned into the car’s infotainment system. A three-year subscription to the Car-Net e-remote service, which enables drivers to manage the charging process from their smartphone, is included with each e-up!
A Government Plug-in Car Grant of £4,500 is available, while the vehicle’s battery comes with an eight-year, 100,000-mile warranty.
