The Dacia Sandero will become the UK's cheapest car when it goes on sale later this month.
Dacia has confirmed that the new Sandero supermini will cost from just £5,995 when order books open on 22 October.
As you'd expect from a car with such a low list price, the basic Sandero Access model comes with almost nothing in the way of standard equipment. You get steel wheels and power steering but not much else -- you even have to pay extra for a radio.
If you fancy a little more in the way of luxury, you can upgrade to the Ambiance trim for £800. This adds remote central locking, electric front windows, Bluetooth and colour-coded bumpers.
The range-topping Laureate model costs a further £1100 more than the Ambiance and comes with cruise control, air-conditioning, electric rear windows, electrically-adjustable door mirrors and front fog lights.
However, one area in which Dacia hasn't skimped is with the engine range. Dacia is, of course, owned by Renault, and the new Sandero comes with a range of engines taken from the new Clio. Three units are on offer, including a 1.2-litre petrol with 74bhp, a 0.9-litre three-cylinder petrol developing 89bhp, and a 1.5-litre diesel which emits just 99g/km of CO2.
Another area in which the Sandero impresses is safety. All models come with driver, passenger and side airbags as standard, along with ABS, traction control, stability control and ISOFIX kiddie-seat mounting points.
All Sanderos will come with a three-year, 60,000 mile warranty, and buyers also have the option to extend this to five-years/60,000 miles or seven-years/100,000 miles for £395 or £850 respectively.
